Philippine Pavilion at World Expo 2025
A multi-sensory experience celebrating Filipino cultural and natural heritage, weaving together artisanal craftsmanship and immersive technology.
At Expo 2025 in Osaka, the Philippine Pavilion invites visitors on a journey through stories of resilience, creativity, and connection to nature. Commissioned by the Philippine Department of Tourism and the Tourism Promotions Board, the Pavilion is brought to life by Tellart in collaboration with Carlo Calma Consultancy Inc.
Nature, Culture & Community – Woven Together for a Better Future.
The Pavilion’s architecture and experience design reflect the Filipino people’s deep bond with land, sea, and one another. From a rattan façade animated with scenes of weaving to AI-powered portraits and interactive dance installations, every element invites guests to explore the warmth, ingenuity, and biodiversity of the Philippines. It’s a journey shaped by diversity and joy and an open invitation to Love the Philippines.
A Facade Turned Canvas
Projected directly onto the Pavilion’s woven rattan exterior, a short film introduces visitors to the soul of Filipino weaving. Divided into three chapters, the film highlights distinct regional weaving traditions. Its imagery mirrors the woven textiles embedded into the Pavilion’s entrance doors, creating a direct link between screen and structure. As the first touchpoint in the experience, the film draws guests into the heart of the Pavilion’s Woven theme.
Walking Into the Loom
Beneath the façade, guests step into a corridor of glowing vertical threads representing the warp of a giant, living loom. Carefully chosen to match the film’s palette, the strands pulse with projected light and sound. Inside, animated shapes and lighting effects dance across the threads, set to music featuring traditional instruments and vocals by Filipino world music artist Bayang Barrios.
A Living Tapestry of Islands
Beyond the entryway, guests wander through a forest of handwoven textiles crafted by Filipino artisans using native materials and traditional techniques. Each piece is enhanced with projected animations, revealing new textures, landscapes, and hidden histories of the Philippines from its beautiful coral reefs and ancestral rituals to its culinary secrets and indigenous wisdoms.
Dancing with Nature
At the center of the Pavilion, a large panoramic screen invites guests to move with the rhythm of the islands. Stepping into the interactive zone, their reflections transform into bursts of digital nature. There, guests encounter the reflection of themselves as a school of fish, a swirl of leaves, or a field of tropical flowers. Music evolves with movement to create an expressive, collaborative dance with the Philippine ecosystem.
AI Portraits in the Philippines
To conclude the experience, guests step into AI-powered photobooths, where they select an environment of their choice, such as a coral reef, rainforest, or orchard. The resulting artwork blends their image into nature-inspired compositions unique to the Philippines. The portraits are downloadable and shareable, giving each visitor a personalized memento rooted in Filipino natural beauty.
